Australia's Original Tree-to-Bar Chocolate Maker: Chris Jahnke's Sweet Journey at Mt Edna

Chris Jahnke moved from Melbourne to a 400-acre property at Mt Edna near Mission Beach in Far North Queensland. Originally a run-down banana farm, Chris saw the potential in its good soils, gorgeous views, abundant rain and fantastic flora and fauna that flourished in the warm tropical climate. Extensive research confirmed the area is ideal for growing cocoa, and with premium chocolate becoming more popular, the time was right. Charley’s is one of only a handful of “cocoa tree to chocolate bar” producers worldwide.

Tree-to-Bar Chocolate - Sustainably crafted, with local flavour.

Whole cream milk, sugar, macadamias, raisins, pineapple, coconut, and other native ingredients are all sourced locally to produce a uniquely Australian and sustainable chocolate experience. Where most commercial milk chocolates contain around 30 per cent cocoa, their milk chocolate boasts a significant 52 to 60 per cent cocoa content. This ensures a distinctive chocolate flavour profile that isn't overwhelmed by the sweetness of sugar and creaminess of the milk. Just as fine wine relies on high-quality grapes, so fine chocolate relies on high-quality cocoa beans. Better beans make better chocolate.
